Sam Mac shares romantic moment he proposed to Rebecca James as the couple announce their engagement

Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac has shared the joyous moment he proposed to Rebecca James.

Sam posted footage of the sweet December 30 proposal, in view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, on Instagram.

Sam got down on bended knee while their one-year-old daughter, Margot, watched on.

“Family — I knew that was the key to the perfect proposal for Bec. I asked her parents, Phil and Celia, for permission a few months ago,” Sam began.

“In that time I found the ring and planned this moment. I’ve never been so nervous in my life.”

Sam said Rebecca’s London-based brother, Sean, surprised her by being there for the occasion and managed to capture the moment on camera.

“Bec’s (family) watched on from a distance as I strategically placed 15 framed photos on the grass in the shape of a love heart,” Sam said, adding that “Bec kept picking them up, so if the heart looks crooked, it’s entirely her fault”.

“Each photo represented a different phase of our love story.”

Sam added he played “their song” — Beyond by Leon Bridges — as he told Bec he was “in love with every version of her” and “asked her to be my wife”.

Sam said after Rebecca said yes, it was daughter Margot who then stole the show “as per usual”.

“A day we will never, ever forget and how about those sunny blue skies!!! Sometimes it pays to trust the weatherman,” he wrote.

Sam revealed the exciting news to friends at the weekend, sharing a photo alongside Rebecca flashing her engagement ring.

“Ladies and gentlemen, my fiancee! She said yes,” he wrote.

“My secret 2023 New Year’s resolution was to propose to my darling Rebecca sometime this year. So I guess this is what you’d call a buzzer beater.

“She’s calm, strong and unintentionally funny. She’s super smart and a genuine knockout beauty.

“She makes me a better man.”

Sam and Rebecca welcomed baby Margot last September.

The popular weather presenter took a month of paternity leave, joking to 7Life: “It’s my turn to be getting Margot up, feed her and basically becoming her personal assistant/servant.

“Margot’s changed so much, even in the past couple of months, so it’s super exciting to have some proper quality time with her.”
